Building on the 10 C’s of survival, here is a list of the items that you will want to secure for your car in the early stages of your preparedness plan. We have expanded on the list that most people consider as the “standard” simply because we aren’t talking about survival alone. We believe that there are additional items that you can easily implement into your emergency kits that can take you from survival to actual preparedness. You will find that some of these items are also in our BOB or HK guides; the reason being that system redundancy will only help you when the time comes.
Given that you need to be prepared for everyday emergencies as well as a “get out of Dodge” emergency, we have delineated the difference between what should go in your Daily Kit that you keep in your car and what should go in your Grab and Go kit that you should keep in your garage. The idea being that you will always be prepared with emergency essentials, but you can also have a grab and go kit with convenience items that you normally wouldn’t haul around. Combine this with your BOB and your HK and you should be able to survive for a very long time.
Along with each essential we have listed some of our favorite products as examples of what you want to look for. You will find reviews about many of these products on this website to get a better idea of why we listed the products we did.
NOTE: This is NOT a vehicle
maintenance and repair manual. We have listed some items you can use to repair
your vehicle, but learning how to use them is not the intent of this guide. Still,
we highly suggest investing some time in learning the basics of everyday
vehicle maintenance and emergency repair as preparedness is much more about
knowledge than having stuff.
